Offering standardized means of homogenizing samples for analysis, ETDS can be adjusted to handle up to 2 g of various materials, even frozen tissue, in up to 25 ml of fluid. Disposable polypropylene homogenizer assemblies (sold separately) have 2 serrated surfaces that grind against each other with sample in between. Time of operation and pressure on grinding surfaces are adjustable. Within seconds, sample is broken down and can be extracted using pipette via hollow grinding shaft.

The System
The ETDS VIII is a stand-alone instrument designed to process a sample with the patented ETDS homogeniser disposable. The unit has been designed to provide consistent homogenisation whenever the unit is used.
The outer tube is a polypropylene injection moulding. A patterned finish has been applied to the inside bottom surface. This finish provides one of the grinding surfaces.
The grinding shaft is also a polypropylene injection moulding. A patterned surface has been applied to the bottom surface, this provides the other grinding surface.
The helix drive at the top of the shaft provides an auto aligning drive connection with the drive spindle.
The grinding shaft has several small slots at the base above the grinding disc. Fluid leaves the central void when the motor starts, returning as a sample fluid mixture through the slots when the motor stops. The slots act as coarse filters preventing large pieces of sample getting into the central sampling area. This helps to
prevent blockages in the sample tips used to remove the homogenate.
Homogenate can be removed with a pipette through the drive shaft without removing the cap.
