    Description

Disneyland Souvenir BOOK 1967 Italian Edition Walt Disney Mondadori Italy WDP
Disneyland Souvenir BOOK 1967 Italian Edition Walt Disney Mondadori Italy WDP
Collectible Disneyland Auctions by Saturday's Toys presents...
a vintage 1967 "Italian Edition" Disneyland hardcover book from Italian publisher Arnoldo Mondadori.
Mondadori represented Disney publishing efforts (including Topolino Magazine) throughout Italy and other areas of Europe.  In addition, they printed the first generation of hardcover souvenir books during Disneyland's first two decades.  In the earlier U.S. Disneyland editions, the Mondadori name was more prominently featured... while that brand was eventually phased out after Walt's passing in 1966.
This "Disneylandia" book was first published in 1961; with a second edition published in 1962; and this THIRD EDITION published in September 1967.  However, the text still includes Walt's opening day speech, in Italian, at the front of the text; essentially a final tribute to the friendship between the Walt Disney and Arnoldo Mondadori families.  Also includes an early glimpse at The Haunted Mansion... constructed in the early 1960's but didn't actually open to the public until 1969... as well as Herb Ryman concept art for the Blue Bayou opening later that year in New Orleans Square.
Notably, the author of the American versions of the book, WED Imagineer Marty Sklar (originally referenced as "Martin A Sklar"), is not credited in this Italian edition of the familiar souvenir.  That's somewhat ironic in that the source library for this particular volume was the same society that managed copyright concerns on behalf of authors and publishers.  The SIAE (
Società Italiana degli Autori ed Editori; aka Italian Society of Authors and Publishers) logo is faintly embossed on the title page of this edition (shown below).
The rare book, "Walt Disney Disneylandia" is the same size of the American edition; 9.5" x 11"; in excellent condition with tight binding and solid spine.
Extremely difficult to find in any condition; and the first copy we've ever been able to offer to the eBay marketplace.  Particularly unusual as the American edition of these texts was offered exclusively at Disneyland and was not marketed to other bookstores throughout the country.  In contrast, it's clear that this edition was offered throughout Europe; perhaps with an interest in promoting Disneyland in areas where Walt Disney's Sunday night television shows were not yet broadcast.
    About Us
    Combined Shipping Available
    Saturday’s Toys and Disneyana Auctions
was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and Disney historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first Disneyana specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 10,000 coveted Disney treasures since then, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers, collectors and friends throughout the world with a shared interest in the preservation of authentic and accurate Disney history.
Today, online offerings of archival Disneyana keepsakes are presented in celebration of the extended times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately known as "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a tip of the cap to the Sherman Brothers):
"Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
